From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.
Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
